Hartford Sound Alliance is a collective of Hartford, CT based composers and performers dedicated to the creation, performance and promotion of new music via composition, improvisation and sound installation, as well as intermedia and interdisciplinary projects.
HSA has a flexible structure both in terms of personnel and project scope in order to adapt to a variety of performative situations; thus, HSA is not so much a new music ensemble, but rather an alliance of collaborative musicians. The group avoids an overriding aesthetic position, preferring a multiplicity of aesthetic viewpoints. HSA wishes to be an inclusive organization to help further create a rich new music community in Hartford and surrounding communities.
HSA's members have recently produced and performed concerts at the Hartt School of Music, Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT), Outpost 186 (Cambridge, MA), Dartmouth College, and in the ensemble's self-designed concert/installation series at the Hartford Art School. Members of the Sound Alliance also frequently perform electronic multimedia performances (often incorporating video works)at art spaces and galleries across the Northeast. Individually, the members are in high demand as composers and performers throughout the New England area as well as the rest of the United States and Europe. Having been trained at some of the country's top music institutions, each musician brings a unique background to HSA furthering its mission to think about and present sound and music in all of its manifestations in contemporary society.
The group is also affiliated with NMNMNE (New Media New Music New England) and SEMI (the Studio for Electronic Music, Inc.), and will be producing an electroacoustic/intermedia concert series in April 2009 in tandem with SEMI and several art spaces across New England.
